5 Fab Nail Trends Ripped Right from the Fall RTW Runways

1. Daring Duos

Nail polish color combos ruled the 2014 Fall/Winter runways, and none looked quite as fabulous — or are as easily achievable at home — as Badgley Mischka’s subtle yet sparkling gray mani. To get the look, simply apply two coats of Deborah Lippmann’s Take the A Train, $20, to the entire nail as a base. Then, carefully add Glitter and Be Gay, $20, also by Deborah Lippmann, to the bottom on your nail, around the cuticle, in half-moon shape. Since this polish is pretty much all sparkle, don’t worry if some of the shade strays. An errant dot of glitter is no problem as this look is all about daring duos coming together to create glam and glittering nails!

2. Rocking Oxblood Red

Deep red is always on-trend—it’s such a perfect color for autumn—so naturally it turned up on many 2014 Fall/Winter runways. Get the look with Julep’s Color Treat in Coco, $14, to add high-impact color to most of the nail, but left just sliver of clear polish in a half-moon by the cuticle.

3. Glittering Grey

Jin Soon’s gorgeous gray Mica polish, was used for the lovely ladies who graced Vera Wang’s Fall 2014 runway. The nails were kept short but the shimmery shade was still incredibly eye-catching. This is a great dark-toned color for fall because it still leaves you with some sparkle: it’s moody but also playful. To channel this look try JINSoon’s Mélange nail polish, $18.

4. Pretty in Soft Pink

Milly’s models hit the runway with a soft touch color on their nails—a pretty light pink, achieved by combining two polishes. After applying the a ridge filling base coat, manicurist Michelle Saunders layered a coat of a sand neutral over a very sheer pink. The result was a beautiful, almost neutral nail color with just a hint a subdued pink. Get a similar look with Deborah Lippmann’s Naked and Pretty Young Thing polishes, $$18.

5. Gilded and Gorgeous

Butter London provided two of their fabulous lacquers for Dannijo’s fall show, and the look created by the brand’s global Color Ambassador, Katie Jane Hughes, was nothing short of stunning. The gradient mani consisted of a base layer of Butter London’s Goss nail polish, $15, followed by the brand’s Posh Bird shade, $15, which was gently sponged on top. The result? An amazing metallic finish that complemented the designer’s baubles beautifully.
