Spring / Summer Fashion Week 2015 Trends
When London calls, you answer. Why is that? Because it is without a doubt the one European Fashion Week city that will simultaneously knock you off your feet with its electrifyingly daring designers, leave you aching for the stuff that street style dreams are made of and have you pondering a night at the latest club or an uber romantic holiday with your sweetie. Yeah it’s that diverse. But when you line up masterminds like Mary Katrantzou, Jonathan Saunders and Erdem, what do you expect. With that varying degree of genius you’d venture to guess there’s a lack of common denominators trend-wise, but that’s the beauty and wonder of London. Fashion is fashion and appreciated every day. If it can make the East and West side kids run in the same fashion circles, albeit for a week, LFW must be doing something right.
Romantic Entanglement – From Christopher Kane’s multicolored rope details to Peter Pilotto’s theatrical evening attire to Simone Rocha’s sexy floral appliques, it’s pretty clear that the top design feature next spring will be twisted, tied and intricately woven embellishments.
It Takes Tulle – While we saw hints of it at NYFW, London categorically won the tulle title. Whether it was layered underneath a jacket, tiered for a dramatic effect, used to accent a dress or tied in a magnificently large bow, tulle was one of the hottest fabrics of LFW.
Disco Inferno – The dancing queens that boogied down the runway were reminiscent of the 70’s disco era. Dripping in sparkly sequins, flared pants, patent metallics, platform heels and decadent make-up, Tom Ford, Richard Nicoll, House of Holland and Ashish were just a few of the designers dipping back into the Studio 54 days.
Tricked Out Trousers – Wide-legged, high waisted, printed, flared, slouchy, bow tied and leather, any way you style it, novelty trousers, culottes and long shorts are the new midi skirts. Bonus if you can nab one in a stripe print.
