Spring/Summer Fashion Week 2016 Trends – New York Edition
There was a certain spring in everyone’s step this past New York Fashion Week. It could have been all the excitement of the new shows (Givenchy jumping over the big pond to showcase in NYC, Kanye’s last minute runway spectacular, Public School’s creative duo taking over DKNY) or all the celebs that would descend on the city. Or perhaps it was all the fresh and modernized iterations of currently trending fashion staples from 70’s style prints to sexy shoulder cut-outs. Whatever the case, if this is the forecast for Fashion Month, then we are in for a wild ride.
To Dye For – The fashion industry has been obsessed with the 70s trend for a few seasons now, but the freshest take on that came in a tie-dye form. The dip dyed effect showed up on dresses, tops, skirts and pants in a wide variety of color combinations.
Giving the Cold Shoulder – You’ll be exercising your right to bare arms next spring because exposing your shoulders just became the modern update to bohemian influenced off-the-shoulder tops.
String Theory – Ribbons took center stage at NYFW from the likes of Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta. Whether long and flowing like a train, adorned on dresses or stitched to the ends of sleeves, the message was loud and clear bows, strings and ribbons will become your new embellishment come spring.
Finishing Touch – We’re madly in love with fringe, but taking it a step further, designers like Givenchy, Tory Burch and Sophie Theallet upgraded the suede and leather fringe we’re used to seeing. Dancing across hemlines or trimming the edges of jackets and tops, fringe was showcased in micro details or exaggerated maxi lengths.
