Fall/Winter Fashion Week 2015 Trends – New York Edition

NYFW

New York Fashion Week might be 8 days in total, and while that seems like endless days of shows, it actually flies by in the blink of an eye. With over 350 shows, there are so many collections to see, so many trends to set and so many designers to admire. Yes, the usual color suspects were there (autumnal colors like maroon, navy, charcoal and camel) as well as fall fabrics like tweed, suede, leather, shearling and fur. But this time around wasn’t just about being in an autumn state of mind. Designers put forth details like grommets and supersized buttons and showcased fabric applications and styling techniques (all hail the pelt!) that were the real showstoppers. These little elements became the talking points heard ‘round Fashion Week and social media. For a taste of what’s to come, here are the top 5 trends #NYFW had to offer.

Unbare-Necked Ladies – Normally autumn/winter trends toss in cheeky bits of sheer, mesh and lace to show off a little skin during the most bundled up time of year, but this collection season one particular body part was officially covered up – the neck. From mock necks to turtlenecks to well placed wraps and scarves to choker necklaces, the message rang loud and clear – fall will be all about the concealed neckline.

Straight to the Floor – Your number one investment for outerwear next season will undoubtedly be the floor length coat. Get one in a bold magenta or canary, opt for unexpected prints and textures or nail two trends in one by nabbing one in suede and fur.

All Flared Up – We’ve got two words for you – flared trousers. From cropped numbers to culottes to floor length pants, store this one into your fashion lexicon, because come fall (and bonus! you’ll see snippets of this in spring as well) the “it” pant silhouette will be the 70s inspired flare.

Put a Pelt on It – Draped crossbody, cinched at the waist with a belt, strung over the shoulders or wrapped around the neck, pelts were the accessory during NYFW. That little dose of fur transformed even the simplest of looks into extraordinarily elegant and luxurious.

The Stylish Devil is in the Details – Adornments like leather and fringe applications or embellishments ranging from polished grommets and studs to enormous buttons heavily saturated the catwalks of everyone from Victoria Beckham to Alexander Wang to Edun.
