Oxblood Is The New Black
When it comes to fall fashion, oxblood has been the hue du jour for nearly five seasons. Moody, sophisticated and oh-so seductive, the color reigns supreme with fearless street-style stars, modern moguls and women who embrace their femininity with unapologetic power and sensuality. With the deep and luxurious pigment of fine bordeaux, oxblood has transcended its status as the season’s signature tone and segued into staple-color territory—we’re calling it the new neutral.
For the 2016 season, we’ve seen designers adopting the hue in innovative and fresh ways, predominantly in handbags. Ranging in shades from deep burgundy to pinkish maroons, oxblood looks decidedly decadent on pebbled leathers mixed with gold-tone hardware and artfully adorned appliqués. The hue isn’t reserved for ladylike top-handle silhouettes alone—we’ve spotted boxy brief bags, minimalist wristlets and structured swingpacks rendered in the rich red palette. When it comes to new-season neutrals, oxblood is officially the new black.
