Fall/Winter Fashion Week 2016 Trends: Paris Edition
You’d be hard pressed to find something that Paris doesn’t do exceptionally well. The soft voice that echoes through famed runway destinations like the Grand Palais whispers to us that this city isn’t just the last of the Fashion Weeks. It’s the grand finale. The final culmination that ever so politely reminds us whatever we think we know about the upcoming season isn’t quite complete until Paris speaks its mind. That’s the kind of exceptional power and supremacy only French fashion can deliver. And once again PFW proved that patience is a virtue. Our nearly month long wait paid off not only in the present, but our fabulously cloaked future as well. Yes, the usual suspects showed up (off-the-shoulder silhouettes and a velvet takeover) but with a reinvigorated sense of originality. Nothing repeated, nothing reminiscent of weeks past. New, fresh and, of course, Parisian. Would you expect anything less? To see just what Paris predicted for your fall fashion forecast, take a look at the top trends below.
Puff the Magic Jacket – It may seem silly to say a puff jacket took over the runway, but give a little credit to Parisian designers – this ain’t no ordinary puffer coat. Exaggerated off-the-shoulder fits, supersized arms, quilted denim, shinny metallic tones and athletic wear in an array of colors prove that the puffer jacket will be a strong force to be reckoned with come fall.
Haute Hybrid – Leave it to Paris Fashion Week to merge two of our beloved closet staples – the jumpsuit and the dress (particularly pinafore and slip dress styles). The result? An undeniably chic hybrid that allows numerous interpretations, most notably a thin turtleneck underneath.
The Velvet Invasion – It isn’t our imagination. Velvet literally conquered the catwalks, but particularly in Paris, where decadent gowns, ruffled tops, indulgent suits and luxe outwear stole little pieces of our fashion loving hearts.
Shouldering the Fame – Okay, okay, not to sound like a broken record, but off-the-shoulders are in. However, did you think that would include your outerwear? Think of ditching the ubiquitously used drape-a-jacket-over-the-shoulders look and insert this shoulder show-off style instead, which is bound to be street style photog bait in no time.
