NYFW 2016 Trends

NYFW 2016

New York Fashion Week isn’t just a kickstarter on the 4-city tour of Fashion Month, but rather the anchor to it all.  Because we’ll see iterations of all the minute details to the mega-trends NYFW presented reverberating through the remaining European capitals each week. What NYFW capitalizes on is the New Yorker in all of us, resulting in the reciprocated and cyclical influence of street style and runway fashion.  What we see on the catwalks of designers like Delpozo or Marc Jacobs becomes commonplace during the “off-season”. It’s a DNA thing. And to capture some of that quintessential Big Apple swagger, take a peek at the Fashion Week trends you’ll be spotting all over the streets of NYC.

Coat of Arms – Outerwear received quite the upgrade this season.  From the hybrid peacoat/bomber jackets at Wang to menswear plaid coats to patent leather parkas to The Revenant inspired fur numbers seen all over the catwalks, cozying up to fall temps is going to be so much fun.

Nerd Prom – Boy, oh boy, did Alessandro Michele have a massive impact on the fashion industry.  His Gucci geek-chic collections struck a chord with NYFW designers.  Expect to see his signature androgynous styling tricks laced with his eccentric retro prints popping up all over the street style scene.

The Velvet Fog – Nothing shocking about a lusciously textural fabric for fall, but modern twists felt fresh in the form of slip dresses and pant suits as well as a fantastical array of colors.

The Right to Bare Arms – It’s pretty obvious now that the shoulder is having a moment, and this collection season is showing the love again with a smattering of updates like one shoulder drop sleeves, asymmetrical cut-outs, lace-up openings and pinafore-like cold shoulders.
