Spring / Summer Fashion Week 2015 Trends
Oh, New York. That concrete jungle where dreams are made of. And as Ms. Alicia Keys so eloquently put it, there’s nothing it can’t do. Case in point – the Spring Summer ’15 runway shows. The ubiquitous gleam of happiness and awe that reverberated in the air personified the lustrous tones, tactile fabrics and fantastical prints the catwalks generated. Just in case you need 5 excuses to jump right back into spring or at least capture the magic right now (as we are suddenly feeling the urge), here are the top trends from New York Fashion Week.
All That Fringe – Our eyes danced in unison with the swinging fringe that sashayed down the runway. Lengthy leather skirts, shredded sweatshirts and tasseled jackets all paved the way for fringe to set up camp in your closet come spring.
The Right Stripes – Just as orange is the new black, stripe is the new floral. Thick vertical stripes clashed against thinly horizontal lines for the ultimate optical illusion (see Cushnie et Ochs for the most jaw-dropping example). And sure the bevy of stripes may have caused a spell or two of dizziness, but taken sparingly they add just the right dose of oomph to your look.
Waist Management – It’s all about the feminine silhouette this spring/summer. Wrapped waists are the chicest way to emphasize your figure and designers like Altuzarra, Creatures of the Wind and BCBG Max Azria are opting for ribbon details, double tied belts along with wrapped dresses and outerwear to create a bold, yet ultra ladylike shape.
Suede Ambition – We’ve learned in recent collections that leather is no longer a seasonal fabric. And now, leather’s lusciously soft to touch cousin, suede, is trying to take the reigns as the new fabric for spring and fall. Dark, monochromatic separates and sultry neutral toned dresses are the perfect foray into sampling suede next season.
The Great Gingham – Okay, so we might not be shocked to see gingham as a print for spring, but trust that this time around it actually is different. We’re not seeing the perfect-for-a-picnic print on sweet summer dresses, it’s been promoted to suiting, evening wear and sexy sportswear.
