New York Fashion Week A/W 2014 Trends

21-NYFW

No matter the falling snow, the gusts of wind, the icy slick streets, New York Fashion Week sets the tone for Fashion Month. We learn what to wear for the upcoming season – the colors (hello pastels and neons!), the prints (oversized florals and checks anyone?) and the textures (shearling, feathers and fur, oh my!), as much as what we shouldn’t be wearing – bye-bye dark tweeds, tiny tartans and dreary fall tones.  The foundation has been laid, the bar has been raised and with the European tour next in line, the only thing we have left to say is – good luck, London, NYFW was a showstopper.

50 Shades of Shearling  – Whether it was patchworked, dyed or cropped, mixed with leather, feathers or fur or showcased on oversized cocoon coats, we’ve officially been schooled – shearling is the new outwear fabric come fall.

Sunny with a Chance of Color – The fall color forecasts of yesteryear narrate tales of dark, brooding tones.  This season, however, the skies cleared and out came pastels, neons and megawatt hues to brighten up even the darkest of autumn days.

That 60’s Show – The fashion sound that reverberated through the air was decidedly a retro throwback chock full of stripes, show-off shoulders, geometric shapes, supersized florals and a mix of colors so eclectic it ushered in a new wave of vibrant rainbow hues.
