Paper Goods: How to Style the Paper Bag Waist

Paper bag clothing

Every once in a while we see a new trend come along and scratch our heads thinking of the perfect way to pull it off. Case in point – the paper bag waist. A trend that popped up all over the Spring/Summer 2016 catwalks and subsequently had us taking styling notes from the runways to street style stars. So what exactly is a paper bag waist? It’s a high-waisted pant, skirt or shorts, that is cinched at the waist by a belt. It slims the mid section and creates a proportionally playful statement. Styling this trend may seem out of reach, but it’s actually quite easy once you get down the proportion formula – an exaggerated bottom needs a more form fitting top. The key is to simplify the look up top so the silhouette of the bottom half can stand out. But don’t be afraid to double down on the trends. A ruffled shirt, a bomber jacket or an off the shoulder top are the perfect toppers to these daringly cool bottoms. For three #onfleek examples of the paper bag waist trend, shop our styled looks below.
