Mixology: Mastering Prints
Dries Van Noten started the methodical mismatching of multiple patterns a few seasons back. Since then fashion devotees have taken mixology to new heights.
For once, more is more in fashion for we mavens who have mastered the mixing of prints. Not quite there yet? Then here’s a little secret to achieving a successful look of multiple patterns: balance. It’s really that simple, mix-nificant looks come from the balancing of the bold, bright, clever and quirky.
A few rules to live by: choose prints that don’t dwarf or engulf you. Choose prints that merchandise well together. Pair subtle with strong, think David and Goliath. Colors and patterns should play off of one another so you’re not left looking like romper room wallpaper circa 1972. If layering, your top layer should be your bravest print and your underneath subtler or even linear (read: pinstripes).
Your success hangs in the balance ladies, mixed it up.
