Fall Beauty: How to Create the Perfect Chunky Bun
One of the chicest Fall hair styles is also one of the easiest to create — the chunky bun. In an instant, it will erase a bad hair day, leaving you with a messy-cool updo that will stay all day.
If you have long curly or very thick hair, you probably won’t need more than an elastic ponytail holder and hairspray. If your hair is thin, short or doesn’t have much natural texture, make sure you also have a teasing brush and/or comb.
You can also use the sock bun trick to give your hair the illusion of more volume. Gather your hair into a high ponytail and secure it tightly at the scalp with an elastic. Tease, if needed. You may also want to spritz on some texturizing spray, such as Living Proof’s Instant Texture Mist, $26.
Part the ponytail in half to create two separate pieces of hair. Take the first piece and wrap it around the base of your ponytail, near the elastic, clockwise. Tuck the ends into the elastic, using bobby pins to secure any pieces that may be sticking out. Take the second piece of hair and wrap it around the base counter-clockwise. Tuck the ends in the same way.
Using a texturizing finishing spray, like Bumble and Bumble’s Cityswept Finish, $29 to seal the style and keep it in place. Add a thick infinity scarf and a denim jacket and you’re good to go!
