3 Essential Bronzer Tips For a Perfectly Sun-Kissed Face

The warm weather is swiftly approaching — are you ready to embrace your inner bronze goddess and give your skin a hint of (faux) sun? Follow these three must-know tips for a glowing complexion that looks warm, summery, and most importantly, natural!

1. Find the Right Shade For Your Skin Tone

One shade of bronzer does not fit all. As a general rule, select a color that is one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone. This is especially important for the fair-skinned — anything too dark will give you that awful orange hue, no matter how much you blend. Try Lancome’s Star Bronzer, $36, which is sheer, light, and comes in five different shades.

2. Always Use a Separate Brush

Are you using your powder and/or blush brushes to apply your bronzer? Halt! Unless you clean them after each and every use (and who does?), this kind of double-dipping can mess with the shade and create an uneven application. Devote one soft, fluffy brush to bronzing, like Lancome’s Bronzer-Mineral Brush #100, $37.50.

3. Apply in a “C” Shape

Placement is key when it comes to creating a truly subtle glow. Rather than apply bronzer all over your face, dust only the areas that are naturally exposed to the sun. Try the “C” trick as your guide: Using Lancome’s Star Bronzer All-Over Magic Bronzer Brush, $36 (which is great for on-the-go touch-ups, as the powder is inside the brush), apply from the top of your cheek to the top your the temple in a “C” shape. Repeat and layer until you’ve built the shade to your liking. Then lightly sweep some color along the bridge of your noise, the tip of your chin, and your forehead along with hairline.
