Get the Look: Liu Wen’s Perfect Complexion

Liu Wen

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Liu Wen has what appears to be perfect skin. The Beijing-born model is always showing off a bright and flawless complexion, whether she’s rocking the catwalk or posing for a casual shot to share on her popular Instagram feed.

But even if you don’t have skin that’s as unspoiled as the supermodel’s (and really, who does?) you can still steal this radiant, glowy-but-matte look by following these five steps:

Sleeping mask

1. Prep Overnight. Treat your skin to a shot of moisture while you snooze. Sephora’s deeply hydrating, creamy gel Sleeping Masks ($4 each) are packed with beneficial ingredients; we suggest the Pearl packet for this look, which works to even skin tone and brighten the complexion.

One Step

2. Moisturize and Prime. Smother your skin with your favorite moisturizer and wait five minutes for it to sink in. Follow with a thin layer of Stila’s One Step Correct ($36)—a fabulous three-in-one serum that brightens, conceals and holds in hydration.

Hourglass

3. Mattify.  You can skip this step if you have dry or normal skin that’s naturally matte. Otherwise, apply a lightweight foundation that will keep oil eruptions at bay, like Hourglass’ Immaculate Liquid Powder Mattifying Oil Free Foundation ($55).

Laura

4. Brighten and Set. Use a translucent powder like Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder ($28), which contains light-reflecting pigments to give your face an extra boost of brightness. Concentrate on the areas around the eyes—foundation tends to get greasy here, plus you’ll look extra awake and refreshed.

5. Add Some Color. Sweep some color onto your cheeks with a very light, natural-looking blush (we recommend Laura Mercier’s Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose Petal ($26), a matte pale pink). Finish with a simple nude lip like Too Faced’s Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Sugar or Melted Nude ($21).
