How to Rock a Bob Without Chopping Off Your Hair

bob

If you wish you could try out a trendy bob or lob, but don’t want to commit to a serious hair chop, fret not! You can still wear a short style without cutting off a single strand. This four-step trick is so simple — and it produces such a dramatically different look . All you need is a hair clip, a bunch of bobby pins, a smoothing hair serum (we love Living Proof’s Satin Hair Serum), and a frizz-fighting hairspray (try Drybar’s Money Maker Flexible Hold Hairspray).

  1. First, decide if you want your bob to be textured or stick straight, then style your hair appropriately using the smoothing serum to prevent frizz and flyaways.
  2. After you’ve styled, pull the top half of your hair up (from either side of your ears) onto the top of your head and fasten with your hair clip.
  3. Separate the bottom half of your hair into two-inch sections, folding them up and pinning them up to your scalp. Secure the folded sections with bobby pins. If you have very fine or thin hair, you can also braid the bottom section and pin it up to your scalp in a small, flat bun.
  4. Release the clip from the top of your head and pull the hair over the folded or braided sections. Arrange them so they completely cover and hide the hair underneath, using bobby pins to secure your hair in various places. Finish with a generous spritz of hair spray.
