How to Wear One of Spring’s Hardest Trends: Culottes

culottes

No longer just for the Francophile, culottes are le rage du jour. Casual to elegant, the wide cropped trouser can be for everyone. C’est vrai.

Pairing nombre une: The t-shirt or tank. A fitted tank or tee, boat shoes and kerchief and you’re off to the regatta. Beret not included.

Pairing á deux: Linen. Lightweight linen culottes are beach and barbeque ready when paired with an equally lightweight loose knit sweater and barely-there sandal. Add rosé and c’est bonne.

Pairing á trios: The classic button down. A menswear shirt with a wide-open collar, multi-strand pearls, and a dorsay flat or sleek loafer and you’re boardroom ready. Walk softly and wear a big culotte.

Pairing fin: Silk satin. From the opera to ballet’s opening night, culottes can be ‘Cocktail Attire’. Silk, satin, or embroidery, Louboutins, a Fendi clutch, diamonds and you’re trés jolie.
