New Year, New Rules – 5 Style Resolutions for 2015

New Year Resolutions

It’s the dreaded question everyone fears this time of year – what’s your New Year’s resolution? Between gritting our teeth and running through a list of options, we reluctantly blurt out some decree of a newfound fitness, health and lifestyle regimen.  But let’s be honest, few of us stick to these new sets of rules.  So why not make this year actually different than previous Januarys of unfilled resolutions.  Start the year off right by declaring 2015 the year of style.  Upping your fashion game, getting out of any style ruts and challenging your wardrobe essentials lists.  Feeling motivated to fulfill your new year’s resolution? Here’s our list of style rules you need to consider for 2015.  Repeat after us, I promise to…

Step outside my comfort zone – Dare to go there this year and the rewards might amaze you.  Trial that one trend (i.e. head-to-toe vibrant color, suede dresses and skirts in the summer, a full-on 70’s bohemian look complete with flared trousers) you feel like only belongs on the runway and just wait for the compliments to roll in.

Victoria Victoria Beckham Suede Shirt Dress $1,850

Balmain High Waisted Cady Pants $2,338

Give new fabrics a home in the front of my closet – If you haven’t heard it by now, you’ve got options for fabrics this year.  Between all the fringed suede, summer leathers, sumptuous fur, reconstructed denim and luxe shearling, there’s no time like the present to replace ol’ standby textiles with chic newbies and modernized classics for added texture and dimension.

Saint Laurent Fringed Suede Mini Skirt $2,390

Dion Lee Stretch Denim Wrap Effect Skirt $530

Accentuate my waist – Lock this style tip into your memory – it’s the year of the cinched waist. That means belted dresses, knot front shirts, wrapped coats, robe-inspired belts, flattering crop tops, basically anything that emphasizes an ultra feminine silhouette.

Max Mara Ciro Robe Coat $2,355

Thakoon Bow Detail Cotton Jacquard Shirt $650

Challenge my work wardrobe – Pencil skirts, button downs and tailored blazers are all well and good for any 9-5, but this year you will need to up the ante on your sartorial office style.  Go for more playful prints (see: Altuzarra gingham suiting), standout flats (metallic brogues and wickedly fancy loafers for starters), long sleeveless coats and voluminous skirts and pants (hint: Rosie Assoulin will be your go-to designer).

Nicholas Kirkwood + Erdem Lizard Effect Leather Point Toe Flats $640

Topshop Sleeveless Ponte Jacket $80

Prioritize my accessories – With all the exciting accessory trends on the horizon (knee-high sandals, mismatched earrings, 60’s inspired platforms, pussy bows, robe belts, etc.), now is the time to fully embrace putting the finishing touches on your look via polished, well thought out accessorizing.

Chloé Suede Gladiator Tall Wedge Sandal $1,450

Marc by Marc Jacobs Orbit Gold-tone, Resin and Leather Earrings $100
